Two months ago HGTV’s host Taniya Nayak let the world into her Boston home. Because she is a designer and has a show on HGTV everyone held her to high standards. Quite a few readers loved her home and some were hesitant to give her their approval on the basis of the home being too stark. In the last two months she finished the remodel of her kitchen and even incorporated some of the reader’s suggestions.
One of my favorite aspects of writing for Apartment Therapy is the direct conversation and discussion that is initiated for each post. Taniya appreciated the numerous comments and feedback on the design of her home and wanted to reach out to the readers.
Taniya’s Note to the Readers:
I wanted to drop you all a note to say THANKS! Thanks for your feedback and your honesty. After reading the comments, I looked at my home in a new light. While I do love my place and am truly not a clutter bug, your feedback motivated me in so many ways. I agree that it was a bit on the stark side, so I introduced a pop of plum. Something as simple as incorporating the plum color did wonders! I also did not show my kitchen for a reason — it was the last place I had left to renovate and it simply did not match up with the rest of my home. I decided, no more hiding! This led to a two week overhaul. We ripped down the wall, added a peninsula, painted the existing cabinets, and brought in a beautiful bright white Caesarstone countertop. I went to IKEA for my new charcoal gray lacquer storage drawers new hardware. I kept the same glass backsplash, relocated my fridge, and added a few more recessed lights. By purchasing items that were in stock, we kept on schedule and on budget. Now I have an open floor plan that’s great for entertaining, which I love to do!
Also, many of you had asked about the view. Please check out my photos overlooking the river as well as my secret cable box storage on the side of my TV/fireplace. Thanks again for your feedback! Proof that even a designer could use an outside eye when it comes to our own home.
Best,
Taniya
